Brief History: Rinoa was born as the only child of a US military veteran. Former General Caraway gained a daughter on the same day he lost his wife and as a result he never wanted any sort of harm to befall Rinoa and kept her as sheltered as he possibly could under the circumstances. Rinny grew up in various major cities, wherever her father was stationed at a particular time, and so she grew accustomed to making friends quickly and staying friends with them. She always had an insecurity complex and found it difficult to do much of anything by herself, even though she wanted to. Her father’s way of keeping her sheltered never failed to annoy her, as she preferred to be in the action and always wanted to help others, as she couldn’t help herself. As soon as she turned 18, she changed her name and took on her mother’s maiden name, Heartilly, further separating herself from her father.
In a last-ditch attempt to make his daughter “see reason” and to keep her safe, General Caraway sent her to school, where he hoped she would see that life was better lived within the shelter of a home and family. Rinoa is constantly looking for another university to go to or some way to escape her father, though this is hard considering he actually lives in the city where the university is located and likes to check up on her nearly every day. She’s gotten good at avoiding him, however, and often runs off to her job or takes Angelo out somewhere when he says he’s going to drop in on her. In spite of everything, she does love her father and wishes he would trust that she can handle things. She allows her friends to call her Rinny or Rin, which naturally serves to irritate her father more, though she hadn’t initially intended the nicknames to do that. She doesn't hate him. She just doesn't understand him.
